Update on January 6, 2022 Fatal Fire
At 2:37 am Thursday January 6, 2022 the Burlington Fire Department, and deputies with the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, were alerted to a mobile home on fire at the Timberline Estates Mobile Home Park at 14876 Washington Road, rural West Burlington in Flint River Township. Deputies arrived first and reported a mobile home fully involved in fire at lot 193. Firefighters arrived at 2:46 am and began firefighting operations and had the fire under control at 3:18 am.
During a search of the mobile home a body was located. The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s office in Ankeny has identified the body as 54-year-old Lisa Joy McCoy. The Medical Examiner determined that Ms. McCoy dies as a result of smoke inhalation. Ms. McCoy was the sole occupant of the mobile home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Burlington Fire Department, the Des Moines County Sheriff’s office, and the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s office.
The mobile home is owned by Homes in Iowa and is managed by Timberline Estates. The mobile home is a total loss and is insured.
Ten Burlington firefighters responded to the initial call and were assisted by firefighters from Danville, Gladstone, Mediapolis, and West Burlington who provided manpower and water tenders. Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office and the Secondary Roads Department, Alliant Energy, and REC also assisted at the scene. There were no injuries. Firefighters cleared the scene at 8:35 am.
