At 2:05 pm Wednesday January 12, 2022 the Burlington Fire Department responded to a reported garage fire in the 500 block of S. Central Street in Burlington. Firefighters arrived at 2:09 pm to find a detached 2-car garage fully involved in fire behind the house at 522 S. Central St. Firefighters brought the fire under control by 2:26 pm.
The rental property is owned by Constance Johnson of Nauvoo, IL and occupied by Levi Martin. The property is insured. Three additional properties were damaged as a result of this fire. Those include the house at 522 S. Central St., a garage at 520 S. Central St., and the garage at 526 S. Central St. Damage estimates are still being assessed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Burlington Police and Fire Departments.
Twelve Burlington firefighters responded to the call and were assisted by Four West Burlington firefighters responding on automatic aid. Burlington Police and Alliant Energy also assisted at the scene. There were no injuries. Firefighters cleared the scene at 5:12 pm.
