At 1:38 PM Friday July 9, 2021 the Burlington Fire and Police Department’s responded to the former Klein Center, at 2910 Madison Avenue in Burlington, for a reported structure fire with flames showing. Police officers arrived and found flames showing from a former office window on the first floor. Firefighters arrived at 1:42 PM and worked to keep the fire contained to one room on the first floor. The fire was declared extinguished by 2:13 PM.
The former 3-story long term care center is owned by Cody Ford. The building sustained fire damage in one room on the first floor and heat damage to the adjoining rooms on either side. The smoke from the fire traveled throughout the building and was ventilated by firefighters.
The cause of the fire is suspicious and is being investigated by the Burlington Police and Fire Departments.
Eleven Burlington firefighters responded to the call from various locations in the city. They were assisted by eight West Burlington firefighters responding on automatic aid. Burlington Police, Alliant Energy, and Superior Ambulance also assisted at the scene. Firefighters cleared the scene at 3:52 PM. There were no injuries.
