At 10:29 AM Sunday June 27th, 2021 the Burlington Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 939 S. Garfield Ave. in Burlington. Firefighters arrived at 10:31 AM and located smoke and fire coming from the rear of the home. Firefighters gained access to the first floor and had the fire extinguished by 10:55 AM.
The single family one and half story wood frame house is owned and occupied by Matt and Melissa Masterson and is insured. Damage is estimated at $30,000 to the structure and $20,000 to contents. No one was home at the time of the incident, however one animal was found deceased inside the residence.
The fire is remains under investigation by the Burlington Fire Department and is not considered suspicious.
Eleven on-duty Burlington firefighters responded to the call with an additional nine off duty Burlington firefighters being called in. Six West Burlington firefighters responded on automatic aid. Alliant Energy, 1-800 Board up, and the Red Cross also responded to the scene. There were no injuries reported. Firefighters cleared the scene at 1:40 PM.
