[ARCHIVED] Burlington Fire Department Responds to Fires

October 14, 2020

 

Structure Fire at 1428 Cleveland St.

 

At 10:19 PM Saturday October 10, 2020 the Burlington Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 1428 Cleveland Street.  Burlington police officers arrived first and located flames in the back of the house.  Firefighters arrived at 10:23 PM and located the fire in the basement and on the first floor of the home.  The fire was quickly extinguished.

 

The home, a two-story single family house owned and occupied by Curtis Heath, sustained an estimated $30,000 in damages and is not insured.  Mr. Heath was at home at the time of the fire and was not injured.  There were no working smoke alarms.  The Red Cross has been called to help with victim assistance.

 

An investigation into the cause of the fire was conducted by the Burlington Police and Fire Departments and is considered to be accidental.

 

Twelve Burlington firefighters responded to the call and were assisted by eight West Burlington firefighters responding on automatic aid.  Burlington police officers also assisted at the scene.  Firefighters cleared this scene at 1:27 AM Sunday morning.

 

 

Structure Fire at 1213 ½ Angular St.

 

At 4:26 AM Sunday October 11, 2020 the Burlington Fire Department responded to a reported kitchen fire at 1213 ½ Angular Street.  Firefighters arrived at 4:31 AM to discover that a grease fire had occurred in the kitchen and had been extinguished by the occupant.

 

The two-unit apartment building, owned by Doug Yesera, sustained minimal damage.  The smoke detectors alerted the occupant and the occupant extinguished the fire with the provided fire extinguisher.

 

This fire is considered to be accidental

 

Twelve Burlington firefighters responded to the fire.  West Burlington firefighters responded on automatic aid and were called off before they arrived.  There were no injuries.  Firefighters cleared this scene at 4:57 AM.
