[ARCHIVED] News Release - City Manager Resignation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 25, 2020

Jim Ferneau has informed the City Council he will be leaving his position as City Manager in order to pursue an outstanding business opportunity outside of city management.  He will be leaving his paid position as City Manager on October 2.  At the request of the City Council and City staff, Jim has agreed to remain in his position temporarily as an independent contractor in order to assist the City with its upcoming budget and its transition to a new City Manager.  The duration of this arrangement depends upon how long it takes the City to find a qualified replacement.  The City will hire a search firm to assist the Council in locating a pool of qualified applicants.  Jim is a leader with rare talent, and the City has been fortunate to have his services these past eight years.   He has been instrumental in leading the City of Burlington forward and he will be sorely missed.  It is difficult to adequately express the Council’s gratitude for Jim’s vision, work ethic, and willingness to work toward positive change.  We wish Jim the best in his new business venture.
