At 3:50 PM Sunday April 5, 2020 the Burlington Fire Department was called to 1005 S. 10th Street for a reported garage fire. While firefighters were responding a second caller reported the fire spreading to a second garage. Firefighters arrived at 3:53 PM to find flames showing from 2 detached garages. Firefighters brought the fire under control and had it fully extinguished by 4:30 PM.
The fire started on the exterior of a 2-car detached garage located behind 1005 S. 10th Street owned by DKE Properties and is insured. The fire spread to a second garage on the property of 1001 S. 10th Street owned by Tyler Underwood. The radiant heat from the fire also damage the siding on the back of the house at 1001 S. 10th Street. Neither building on that property are insured. The fire also damaged a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix owned by Chelci Adams of 1005 S. 10th Street.
The fire is considered suspicious and under investigation by the Burlington Police and Fire Departments.
12 Burlington Firefighters responded to the call and were assisted by firefighters from West Burlington responding on automatic aid. Firefighters remained on the scene until 6:03 PM. There were no injuries.
