[ARCHIVED] Burlington Fire Department responds to Apartment Fire

October 16, 2019

At 1:50 PM Wednesday October 16, 2019 the Burlington Fire Department responded to an unknown fire in a brick building at Elm and S. 3rd Streets in Burlington.  Upon arrival of the fire department 4 minutes later there was light smoke coming from the east side of the building located at 219 Elm Street.  Firefighters located the fire in a couch in apartment 3 and it was quickly extinguished with a water extinguisher.  There was nobody home at the time of the fire.

The 6 unit apartment building is owned by EZ MAC Properties of Burlington.  Fire damage was limited to the couch with some minor smoke damage to neighboring apartments.  There were no working smoke detectors located.

The most likely cause of the fire is improperly discarded smoking material.  The fire remains under investigation by the Burlington Fire and Police Departments.

Thirteen Burlington firefighters responded to the scene and were assisted by three West Burlington firefighters responding on automatic aid.  Firefighters remained on the scene until 3:02 PM.  There were no injuries.
