[ARCHIVED] 8/25/19 - House Fire at 1122 S. 13th St.

At 7:32 AM Sunday August 25, 2019 the Burlington Fire Department was alerted to a house fire at 1122 S. 13th Street in Burlington.  Firefighters arrived 5 minutes later to find flames coming from the front window of the small two-story house.  Neighbors reported they believed the occupants were still inside. Firefighters confirmed that all occupants had escaped the house, one with minor injuries.  Firefighters contained the main fire to a front room and brought the fire under control by 7:46 AM.

The home, owned and occupied by Debra Estrada sustained an estimated $35,000 in damages to the structure and $20,000 to contents.  Besides the owner, the house was occupied by David Bray and Stephani Dixon.  All were able to escape.  There were no working smoke detectors.

The fire remains under investigation by the Burlington Fire Department and is not considered suspicious.

Eleven Burlington firefighters responded on the initial call and were assisted by two West Burlington firefighters responding on automatic aid.  Alliant Energy and the American Red Cross were called to assist.  Two pets perished as a result of the fire.  There were no other injuries.  Firefighters remained on the scene until 10:22 AM.
