[ARCHIVED] Hydrant Flushing

The Burlington Municipal Waterworks will be flushing all city fire hydrants beginning Wednesday, September 6, 2017 and continuing for the next 5 - 6 weeks.  During this time, residents may experience temporary low pressures or discolored water.  If discolored water is experienced, the Waterworks suggests residents let their cold water run in a sink or bathtub, capable of draining the flow, for up to 20 minutes.  If the problem still persists, please notify the Waterworks office at (319)754-6501, or after hours, notify the Water Treatment Plant at (319)752-7611.  For those customers with a water meter, letting the water run will increase the amount of your bill.  Additionally, customers may notice a slight chlorine odor as the Waterworks will be disinfecting with free chlorine during the flushing process and returning to chloramine for disinfecting when finished.
