[ARCHIVED] Burlington Fire Department Responds to Garage Fire

At 5:20 PM Monday December 12, 2016 the Burlington Fire Department responded to a garage fire in the 1800 block of Edwards St.  Upon arrival 5 minutes later, firefighters discovered smoke and flames coming from a large detached garage behind 1810 Edwards St.  Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire by 5:57 PM.

 

The garage, owned by Lyle & Margo Ballard of 1810 Edwards St., was unoccupied and sustained significant fire and smoke damage.  The fire was discovered and reported by neighbors.  Damage is estimated at $20,000 to the structure and $50,000 to contents.  The garage and contents are insured. 

 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Burlington Fire Department and is not considered suspicious.

 

10 on duty Burlington firefighters responded to the call and were assisted by 8 West Burlington firefighters responding on automatic aid.  4 off duty Burlington firefighters were called in for standby.  Burlington police officers also assisted at the scene.  Firefighters remained on the scene until 8:01 PM.  There were no injuries.
