Burlington Urban Service (B.U.S.) is a people-oriented transportation system owned and operated by the City of Burlington, Iowa.  We offer you alternative transportation service that is fast, convenient and economical.  Routes service nearly all areas of Burlington, and nearly 90% of all residents live within 3 city blocks of a bus route.

Locating the central transfer and loading area to the old Burlington Northern Railroad Depot at 300 South Main Street has simplified transferring from one route to another.

Buses normally operate on regular 40-minute intervals from 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM, and then except for Route #4 (Flint Hills) and Route #5 (Westland Mall) that goes to 1-hour intervals, the system operates on demand response between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:15 PM from reservations made during the previous business day by calling 319-753-8162.  No bus service is provided on Sundays and the six major holidays (New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day).  Ask your driver for additional information, or call 319-753-8162.

B.U.S. operates a single demand response bus from 5:30 AM to 6:50 AM.  Passengers desiring to use this service must notify the office the previous business day by calling 319-753-8162 to be included on this route.  Capacity of this special route is limited.

B.U.S. suspends normal route service twice a day during the school year to transport students.  BUS patrons are urged to listen for school delays and announcements on the radio during times of bad weather (fog, ice, or snow).  Service will be suspended on the basis of a one or two hour delay (per announcement on radio station KBUR).

  • 1 Hour Delay will result in service suspension from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM
  • 2 Hour Delay will result in the bus leaving the terminal at 9:00 AM, arrive at end of line at 9:15, arrive at terminal at 9:30, and suspension of service from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM. Normal service resumes with 10:00 AM inbound service.

B.U.S. also provides service on Saturdays between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM, from reservations made during the previous business day by calling 319-753-8162.
