July 3, 2000
The Burlington City Council met in regular session at 7:00 p.m. with Mayor Scott, Council
Members Edwards, Kellogg and Thomas, present. Council Member Wright resigned effective
April 21, 2000.

SWEARING IN OF NEW FIRE CHIEF BY CITY MANAGER
PROCLAMATION: Retirement of William L. Ell, Fire Chief
DISCUSSION: The City Manager and City Council presented Bill Ell, Fire Chief, with a
Retirement Proclamation, a plaque and a distinguished service medal for his years of service with
the Burlington Fire Department. They further expressed their thanks for a job well done. All
present had opportunity to speak and nothing additional was filed in the office of the City Clerk.
CONSENT AGENDA: To the Public:
All matters listed under Item I., Consent Agenda, having been discussed were considered to be
routine by the City Council and were enacted by one motion. There was not separate discussion
of these items. If discussion was desired, that item was removed from the Consent Agenda and
was considered separately.
MOTION: To approve all listed under Item I., Consent Agenda.
DISCUSSION: Mayor Scott reviewed the items listed on the consent agenda to the viewing audience. All present had opportunity to speak and nothing additional was filed in the office of the City Clerk.

COMMENTS FROM AUDIENCE: Susan VanPelt of 1037 North 7th Street stated that she was
against the placement of a new marque that would be placed in front of the Memorial
Auditorium. She stated that it would be a waste of money and would not be a beautiful site. All
present had opportunity to speak and nothing additional was filed in the office of the City Clerk.
