THE BURLINGTON, IOWA, CITY COUNCIL

Special Meeting No. 30

April 30, 1997

The Burlington City Council met in special session at 3:45 p.m. with Mayor Sandell, Council Members Heland, Scott and Thomas, present. Council Member Henry participated via electronic communications.

SPECIAL MEETING NOTICE ACKNOWLEDGED

RESOLUTIONS:

1. Resolution Setting Date for Public Hearing for Consideration of Plans and Specifications for the 1997 Police Department Air Conditioning Project, Phase I (May 5, 1997)

DISCUSSION: The City Manager stated that the reason for setting date for public hearing for consideration of the plans and specifications for the 1997 Police Department Air Conditioning Project, Phase I was due to the Police Department needing air-conditioning for the summer months. The Public Works Director stated that this phase I of two phases. He stated that phase I was air-conditioning for the Police Department and phase II scheduled for next year was for a new heating system. He stated that the approximate cost for phase I was under $100,000.00. He stated that the approximate cost for phase II was $350,000.00. The City Manager stated that when the City was renovating the building they were notified by a local engineering firm that the useful life of the boiler was 4 to 5 years. She stated that the City was now within that time period where the equipment needs replaced. She further stated that even with the expenditures, the City still received a huge savings from renovating the building verses building a new Police Station. The Police Chief stated that the roof on the Police Station was coming close to its life expectancy also. All present had opportunity to speak and nothing additional was filed in the office of the City Clerk.

(VOTE: 5 - "AYES") ADOPTED

2. Resolution Awarding Contract for the 1997 Memorial Auditorium Arena Level Ladies Restroom Remodeling

DISCUSSION: The City Manager stated that the bids received for the 1997 Memorial Auditorium Arena Level Ladies Restroom Remodeling were right at budget. All present had opportunity to speak and nothing additional was filed in the office of the City Clerk.

(VOTE: 5 - "AYES") ADOPTED

3. Resolution Approving Partial Payment for the 1996 Front Street Paving Improvements, Jefferson to Washington

DISCUSSION: The City Manager stated that staff did not get the paperwork to the City Clerk on time for approval at the last City Council meeting. She stated that the approval of the partial payment for the 1996 Front Street Paving Improvements, Jefferson to Washington was needed so that the contractor could receive their monies in the amount of $60,269.10. All present had opportunity to speak and nothing additional was filed in the office of the City Clerk.
