Nuisance
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
- ENVIRONMENTAL NUISANCE - |
| Environmental
Nuisance began under the direction of the Des Moines County Health
Department. In the early 1990's, the City of Burlington expanded
their Environmental Code in an effort to further maintain a
positive image for the community and enforce cleanup of neglected and
badly maintained properties. Two environmental nuisance positions
were created at the time and are still maintained today. |
The Environmental Nuisance Department enforces regulations on the following:
1. Tall Vegetation and Noxious Weeds
2. Unkempt Trash and Garbage
3. Abandoned
and Nonconforming Vehicles on Private Property
4. Other Valid Environmental Nuisances |
Nuisance
Inspectors respond to calls on a
daily basis. Violators are given a certain period of time to
correct any violations or the property nuisance will be abated by the
City and charged back to a property's taxes. Primarily working on a complaint basis, environmental nuisance
inspectors respond to a variety of complaints. These complaints
may be given directly to the inspectors or they can be handed over from
another City office or department.
|
| If you have a questions as to what constitutes a nuisance or wish to report a nuisance, please call a Nuisance Inspector. |
