The Land Use portion of the Comprehensive Strategic Plan for Burlington was updated in the Spring of 2006.  This amendment can be found here:Comprehensive Plan: Land Use

The City has updated the Zoning and Subdivision Regulations.  This includes a new section on Architectural Design Guidelines, with certain requirements on the appearance of buildings.  This section was approved by the City Council in the Fall of 2007.

The City of Burlington and Des Moines County are jointly working on the completion of a recreational trail from the Port of Burlington through Starr's Cave Park and Preserve to Big Hollow.  This trail, the Flint River Recreation Trail, will be the longest multi-use trail in southeast Iowa.  More information on this project and other Vision Iowa projects can be found here.

Information on the Manor Revisited Redevelopment project can be found here.

Information on the US Highway 61 Development Project can be found here.  This property is owned by the City of Burlington.  The City is seeking a developer to purchase the property and develop a high-quality, multi-tenant commercial site.

Please contact the City Planner with any suggestions for future planning or code revision.
